A wombat is built like a piece of machinery - solid muscle over a low frame, with a backside reinforced by thick cartilage it uses to block a burrow entrance and crush anything that follows it in against the roof.
They are also creatures of habit, which is what makes the damage repeat. A wombat keeps to established routes between burrows and feeding ground, and if a fence is put across one, the route wins.
