Peeka is a web app that looks at a photo of an animal and says what they’re probably thinking — two or three sentences, in their voice. Point your camera at an animal, tap once, and read what comes back.

Your photo is read by a vision model, which studies the visible evidence — ears, tail, posture, what’s happening in the frame — and writes the animal’s side of the story from it. While it reads, its actual observations stream onto the screen, so the wait is the model looking, not a spinner.

No — nobody knows that, which is rather the point of cats. Peeka reads real body language and real context, then writes an honest, plausible interpretation for entertainment. The observations are genuine; the inner monologue is educated fiction.

Anything with a heartbeat in the frame. The Library tracks 100 species — pets, farm animals, and wildlife from Australia, North America, Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America — and Peeka will still have a go at animals outside it.

Yes, when the photo shows enough to tell — Peeka names the breed as well as the species, on every plan. It reads the shape it can actually see: a sighthound's legs and deep chest, a flat face, a distinctive coat. If your dog is curled up asleep, the shape a breed is read from is hidden, so Peeka gives you the build and the coat and names no breed rather than guessing. It won't call something a mixed breed to avoid admitting that either. On Plus and Pro the breed also shapes how the animal sounds, without the reading ever naming it.

Yes — name an animal and Peeka keeps a running record of every line they’ve said from that point on, newest first, with the date on each. Free reads back 6 lines, Plus 32 and Pro 84; the lines themselves stay on your phone either way, so the rest of the story is waiting rather than deleted. Peeka can also write a short profile of who they are from everything it has seen, and turn that into a card you can share.

Small milestones for filling in the Library — a few for how many species you’ve met overall, a couple for clearing every pet and every farm animal, and a wildlife set that pools sightings from every region equally, so it rewards how much you use the app rather than where you happen to live. They’re a name and a line, nothing more — badges never unlock features.

Only paying asks you to sign in with Google — a plan or a peek pack both have to belong to an account so they can follow you between devices.

Yes — peek packs are a one-off purchase, 10 peeks for A$1.99 or 30 for A$4.99. They never expire, and they are only spent once that day’s included peeks run out, so a pack sits there for the afternoon you meet six animals instead of becoming a monthly bill you would have to remember to cancel. Buying one needs a free account, because the balance has to belong to someone.

On Android, and in Chrome or Edge on desktop, tap Install Peeka and accept the prompt. On iPhone, open this page in Safari, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen. Once installed it launches from your home screen like any other app.

Install Peeka on the new device, then sign in with the same Google account and your plan is simply there — never buy it twice. A subscription belongs to your Google account, not to a device, so each new phone or computer just needs one sign-in. On iPhone, sign in inside the installed app (not Safari) — Apple keeps their storage separate.

It uses your phone’s own voice in the language it’s already set to, so there’s nothing to install and no setting to find, and it only ever starts when you tap it. The free tier is read, not heard.

They stay yours. A photo is sent securely for analysis and the result comes straight back — your history, pets and Library live in your phone’s local storage, not in a cloud account.
