Privacy Policy
Peeka is built to be private by default. This policy explains what we collect, why, and who else touches your data. If anything here is unclear, email hello@peeka.pet.
Who we are
Peeka is operated by Hart & Heim Pty Ltd (ABN 23 123 508 663), an Australian company (“we”, “us”). For any privacy question or request, contact us at hello@peeka.pet.
What we collect, and why
- The photos you take. When you point Peeka at an animal and tap, that photo is sent to Anthropic’s Claude to generate the animal’s “voice.” We use it only to produce that reading and return it to you. We do not store your photos on our servers, and we do not use them to train models.
- Your account (optional). Peeka works without one. If you sign in with Google, we receive your email address and a Google account identifier through our authentication provider (Supabase). We use these only to know which plan you’re on, to hold any peeks you’ve been given or bought, and to make sure the free peeks that come with signing up are given once per email address.
- Payment information. Subscriptions and peek packs are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number — Stripe handles that as the payment processor. Charges appear on your statement as “Hart & Heim Pty Ltd.”
- Things saved on your device. Your remembered pets, reading history, and preferences are stored in your browser’s local storage, on your device. We do not upload them.
- Limited technical data. To enforce fair-use limits and prevent abuse, we process your IP address in a one-way hashed form (using a secret salt) so we can count requests without keeping your raw IP address.
Who else handles your data
To run Peeka we rely on a small set of trusted providers, each with its own privacy policy:
- Anthropic — analyses your photo to generate the reading.
- Google — powers “Continue with Google” sign-in, and measures whether our own ads led to someone using Peeka (see Cookies below).
- Supabase — authentication and account database.
- Stripe — subscription and peek-pack payments.
- Vercel — hosting and delivery of the app, plus anonymous, cookieless page-view analytics (aggregate counts only; no personal identifiers, nothing stored on your device).
Some of these providers process data outside Australia (including in the United States). By using Peeka you consent to that overseas processing, which is necessary to provide the service. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not let anyone build advertising profiles from it. We do advertise Peeka and we measure whether those ads work, which is described under Cookies below.
Cookies
We use the cookies needed to keep you signed in (a session cookie from our authentication provider on paid accounts).
We also advertise Peeka, and we measure whether those ads work. Google’s advertising tag runs on this site and sets a cookie, so that if you arrived from one of our ads a later peek can be counted against it. We have turned ad personalisation off, so it counts our own ads rather than building a profile of you or adding you to advertising audiences. What it records is that a peek happened — never the photo, the reading, the species, or anything you typed. It does not run in the Peeka app installed from Google Play. You can block it with any standard tracking blocker and Peeka works exactly the same.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us to access, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you. Deleting your account removes your account record and the link to your subscription; your on-device data can be cleared by clearing your history in the app or your browser storage. To make a request, email hello@peeka.pet.
Children
Peeka is a general-audience app and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Security
We take reasonable steps to protect your information, including limiting what we collect in the first place. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to keep the data we do hold safe.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we’ll change the “last updated” date above, and for significant changes we’ll do our best to let you know.
Complaints
If you have a concern about how we’ve handled your information, please contact us first at hello@peeka.pet. Australian users may also contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
