What is a chipmunk thinking?

Cheeks currently operating well beyond rated capacity.

The pouches stretch to roughly three times the size of the animal's head, and they are not for eating out of. They are for transport — a chipmunk fills both sides, runs the load back underground, empties them and returns for more.

The burrow is the real project. A single system can run several metres with separate chambers, and one chipmunk will move thousands of seeds into it across an autumn, mostly out of somewhere you were hoping to keep them.
